MAXXI – National Museum of the 21st Century Arts, Rome
presented by CURA.
The performance artist Ei Arakawa joins the New York based Hawaiian dance team Halau Hula O Na Mele ‘Aina O Hawai’i (led by the native Hawaiian Luana Haraguchi). They present traditional hula (Kahiko) at the MAXXI museum courtyard, telling stories of the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes, Pele.
The performance was premiered at the Whitney Biennial 2014 with Ei Arakawa’s hat sculpture, Hawaiian Presence.
