ARTISTS FOR IAN AT ARTISSIMA
4–6 November 2016
CURA. will take part in Artissima 2016 with the initiative ARTISTS FOR IAN, the fundraising campaign in support of artist Ian Tweedy. The fair is the occasion to relaunch the online platform, on Beart website, and to present live a selection of the more than 100 remarkable works donated by artists for the benefit.
It will be possible to browse the catalog of all the available works and to see the works by Danilo Correale, Gabriele De Santis, Marco Palmieri, Gianni Politi, Avish Khebrehzadeh, Zoe Williams. Also voluntary donations will be possible and an overview of the complete catalog of works.
In August 2016 Ian Tweedy – one of the most accomplished painters of his generation with over ten years of international museum and gallery exhibitions – has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. A first surgery was attempted on Monday October 24th but failed for a respiratory complication. The new surgery date has been scheduled on December 7th.
While the surgeon in charge is confident of the procedure’s success, in a good scenario, Ian will still lose 30 to 40 percent of sensibility and motion on the right side of his body. With time and physical therapy, Ian should regain almost fully his capabilities, but it will take years and only the cost of the operation, which will be covered only partially by his health insurance, is estimated between 300,000 and 500,000 dollars, without counting hospital stay and future physiotherapy.
ARTISTS FOR IAN aims to organize a number of benefit sales of works donated by fellow artists, to collect donations and to continue promoting projects and events supporting Ian throughout all stages of his recovery. All proceeds will be fully destined to covering his medical and recovery expenses.
