Kunstverein Kevin Space is pleased to announce Alter, the first solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Analisa Teachworth in Austria. The exhibition formulates entrance points to uncharted and liminal spaces through a new series of paintings and site-specific installation. 

Alter expands on the artist’s interest in examining the interrelations between experience, spatiality, place, and borders through an investigation of various materials and forms. Teachworth’s multifaceted practice, spanning paintings, sculptures, installations, sound, digital media, research, and writing, conscientiously developed over the past decade, address means and methodologies of myth-making and self-defining. 

Teachworth opens up the possibilities of receptive and fluid processes of materialization, where the production of meaning and knowledge is never fixed and concepts between “natural” vs. “artificial,” “human” vs. “non-human,” and “social” vs. “technological” can be openly investigated and negotiated. The thresholds and portals appearing in Alter are of architectural, material, social and existential nature. They speak to the (im)possibility of transgressing one’s viewpoint, perspective and positioning, that are humanistically inscribed and recount the fiction of our interiority. Teachworth’s new installation summons the “rhythms, pulsions and patternings of non-human forces,” that Mark Fisher described as the  eerie presences that are always sharing our interiority with us. The outside is the inside. 

Through elaborative visual language and narrative that nurture transformations and symbiotic relationships, Teachworth’s work lays open undocumented oral knowledge and unwritten information as a form of personal myth and world-building, influenced by the artist’s upbringing in the landscape of abandoned post-industrial Detroit, and her Puerto Rican ancestry.
